Texas Longhorn Educational Experience for Groups

Large group of people next to the Aussie Acres Ranch sign.

Bring agriculture to life with an interactive Texas Longhorn educational experience designed for schools, FFA chapters, youth organizations, homeschool groups, and other groups of 8–15 participants, ages 6 and up.

Learning about agriculture is more memorable when students can experience it firsthand. At Aussie Acres Ranch, our group educational experience gives young people the opportunity to step outside the classroom, connect with nature, and discover the remarkable story of Texas Longhorn cattle in the setting where they are actually raised.

Located in the South Georgia countryside, our ranch provides an engaging educational farm experience that combines agricultural history, animal science, ranch management, and real interaction with Texas Longhorns. Instead of simply reading about livestock, participants can see these animals up close, ask questions, and better understand their role in American agricultural history.

Whether you're planning a school field trip, FFA activity, homeschool outing, agriculture education program, or youth group experience, we'll help turn your visit into something students can see, touch, discuss, and remember.

Discover the Story of the Texas Longhorn

Texas Longhorns are much more than an iconic breed of cattle. Their story is closely connected to the history of agriculture in the United States.

During your group visit, we'll explore how cattle brought from Spain eventually became established in the Americas and how the ancestors of today's Texas Longhorns became among the earliest cattle raised in what would later become the United States.

Participants will learn about the breed's history while also discovering what raising Longhorns looks like today.

Topics can include:

  • The Spanish origins and history of Texas Longhorn cattle

  • The Longhorn's role in early American ranching and agriculture

  • Characteristics that make Texas Longhorns different from other cattle breeds

  • Benefits and unique qualities of the breed

  • How registered Texas Longhorns are raised, managed, and cared for today

  • Animal nutrition, pasture management, handling, and responsible livestock care

  • How modern ranchers make decisions about breeding and herd management

  • The relationship between agriculture, animals, land, and the people who care for them

The discussion can naturally adapt to the age and interests of the group, making the visit meaningful for younger children while still providing valuable agricultural context for FFA members and older students.

Take Agricultural Education Beyond the Classroom

Finding a field trip that is both entertaining and genuinely educational can be challenging. Teachers and group leaders need activities that hold students' attention without losing the learning objective.

Our Texas Longhorn educational experience combines the two.

Participants don't simply hear a presentation about cattle. They visit a working ranch environment, observe Longhorns firsthand, and connect what they're learning to real animals and real agricultural practices.

Your group can:

  • Make agriculture tangible: Students can connect classroom concepts with livestock, pasture, ranch management, and everyday agricultural decisions.

  • Encourage curiosity: Seeing Texas Longhorns up close naturally creates questions and opens conversations about animals, history, food production, genetics, land management, and farming.

  • Experience hands-on learning: Depending on the visit, participants can interact with and feed the Longhorns while learning how to approach and understand livestock safely.

  • Connect history with modern agriculture: Students discover how a breed with centuries of history continues to be raised and managed by ranchers today.

  • Learn in a smaller group environment: With groups limited to 8–15 attendees, ages 6 and up, the experience remains personal enough for participants to see, hear, engage, and ask questions.

  • Create lasting memories: An agricultural lesson becomes much easier to remember when students can associate it with standing beside a Texas Longhorn and experiencing ranch life firsthand.

Ideal for Schools, FFA Chapters and Youth Groups

This group experience is designed for organizations looking for something more meaningful than a typical outing.

It can be a great fit for:

  • Elementary, middle, and high school groups

  • FFA — Future Farmers of America — chapters

  • Homeschool groups and co-ops

  • 4-H and agricultural youth organizations

  • Scouts and youth groups

  • Agricultural education programs

  • Community and church youth programs

Please keep in mind we make our bookings at least 2 weeks in advance to verify availability.

A South Georgia Agritourism Experience They’ll Remember

Some lessons stay on a worksheet. Others stay with students long after the field trip is over.

At Aussie Acres Ranch, we want young visitors to leave understanding not only what a Texas Longhorn looks like, but why the breed matters, where it came from, and what responsible livestock management actually involves.

It's an opportunity to slow down, get outside, connect with animals, and experience a part of agriculture that many children and young adults rarely have the chance to see firsthand.

For educators, parents, and group leaders, it means giving your participants an outing that is engaging and purposeful. For students, it means experiencing agriculture as something real, living, and connected to the world around them.
